Recollecting…

Today, my family is celebrating the life of our last uncle, Edwin Earl Paris, Sr.
In the last few days, we have done a great deal of recollecting our times together. We have shared memories, photos and, once again, those brief but wonderful moments of being together.
This morning, finishing up an Advent devotional book, I discovered recollection has a spiritual meaning as well.
“Recollection, as understood in respect to the spiritual life, means attention to the presence of God in the soul.”
Any recollecting I do about my extend family, includes this element of recollecting of being in the presence of God. In the faith our Grandparents passed to their children, and then, those generations modeled their faith for the grandchildren. And we are for our children and grandchildren.
Our grandparents married in February 1922. The prayer we had a family dinner last night, represents 100 years of Paris’ gathering in a prayer circle, placing Christ in the center of our midst.
What a great legacy.
What is your family’s greatest legacy?
(Update on my writing.
I’m still working on a draft of my first chapter of The Owl and The Bat. Yes, this is more time than is recommended on a first draft. In my defense, I’m writing from the point of view of two owls. I working on getting the right tone establish. I’m hopeful, this will enable me to create the rest of the story more quickly.)
