I was attracted to this book because… I heard Ian Cron on a webinar and I immediately ordered the book. I’m really interested in personality types, not only for myself, but for improving the characters I’m writing.

This book was about the ancient personality type system called the Enneagram. This is a very different system for personality typing than what we generally know. The ancient background is very intriguing. The authors share real life stories of people who fall into each personality type which bring the nine types alive. In addition to describing the types, there are helpful questions and actions to allow the reader to determine when they acting in an ‘unhealthy mode’ and move to living healthy. This book also presents scriptural insights for each of the types.

Things I liked about this book A year or so a go, I took an on-line enneagram test. And the results were interesting, but they didn’t mean that much to me. As I read the book, the type the on-line test showed came alive to me. I have a much greater understanding of who I am and how I can improve my world. The information provided is overwhelming and is going to take more  study to fully understand. But I’m ready to attack it.

Why you should read this book If you have ever walked away from a personality type empty or with more questions about yourself than when you took the test, this book is for you. If you have disappointments or frustrations with the significant relationships in your life, this book can help you understand how the personality types work together in both their ‘healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’ states.

This book lived up to the back cover copy  - A great line from the back cover - “What you don’t know about yourself can hurt you - and your relationships, and how you make your way in the world. It can also keep you in the shallows with God.
