A Community of Generational Friends…
There is an occasion for everything,
and a time for every activity under heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1
As I prepared to teach the third chapter of Ecclesiastes, a friend from our teenage years posted a photo of her parent’s celebrating 69 years of marriage.
Both of us were reminded of the unique parts of our two families played in our lives.
Even though she lived in the next superb, we were both members of the same teenage girls local organization. My parents were active adults leaders for the group. Her Dad would drop her off and pick her up at my house for many study times and social gatherings.
It was a wonderful time for both of us. But I was a year or two older than she, and college came and we lost contact.
Fast forward about 11 years, I moved to the technical group at my work. One of the men I worked with became a great mentor for me in so many ways. His wife also worked in the building. I was able to interact with both of them at breaks and some social events. They were a great influence on me.
I never thought about how they were my folks age. They never thought about how I was their daughter’s age. And he referred to her by a nickname we didn’t use. One year, while at their house for Christmas dinner, their daughter to a few minutes to look through the Christmas Cards on the mantel.
In great surprise, she asked them, “You got a Christmas Card from Lyndie Blevins?”
They responded, “You know Lyndie Blevins?”
In no time, they realized this amazing connection our families had.
Once again, this weekend, we were reminded of how my family was encouragement to their daughter at one part of life. And in turn, how her family encouraged me at a totally different time of life. This is the power of families in community.
Have your family and another family shared special times in different stages of life?

Be safe.
